Our commitment

We know who we hire, and we conduct that process with integrity.

Compass IoT handles sensitive customer data and operates in regulated environments. Background screening is part of how we ensure that the people we bring into our organisation are who they say they are, and that they meet the trust standards our customers expect. All screening is conducted lawfully, proportionately, and with the candidate's knowledge and consent.

This policy applies to all prospective employees and, where appropriate, contractors engaged in roles with access to sensitive systems or customer data.

Background checks are conducted on:

  • All prospective employees as a condition of a formal offer of employment.
  • Contractors who will have access to production systems, customer data, or Restricted-classified information.
  • Any individual in a senior leadership or financially authorised role.

The level of screening may vary by role based on the nature and sensitivity of access required.

Checks conducted

What we check

Standard pre-employment screening at Compass IoT includes the following, subject to role and jurisdiction:

  • Identity verification — confirmation of identity against government-issued documentation.
  • Right to work — verification that the individual is legally permitted to work in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Employment history — verification of the roles and periods of employment declared by the candidate.
  • Criminal history check — conducted in accordance with applicable law and relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Reference checks — professional references from recent employers or engagements.

Handling results

How results are handled

Background check results are treated as confidential personal information and handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law. Results are accessed only by those involved in the hiring decision.

A finding that raises concern does not automatically disqualify a candidate. Results are assessed in context — taking into account the nature of any finding, its relevance to the role, and the time elapsed. Candidates are given the opportunity to respond to any adverse findings before a decision is made.

Data retention

Background check results are retained for the duration of employment plus the applicable legal retention period. Results for unsuccessful candidates are retained only as long as required by law and then securely deleted.

Policy ownership and review

This Background Check Policy is owned by the Compass IoT leadership team and reviewed annually, or when changes to applicable law or our hiring practices require an update.
