Final Destination: Where is everybody going?
How has mobility changed across individual Sydney municipalities? We looked at four different councils across Greater Sydney to compare data from the 24th of April, 2020.
There is a famous proverb that has floated around even before the prevalence of the internet - life is about the journey not the destination. However, when it comes to mobility data, it's a little bit of both.
Last week we released journey origin data across Sydney, with a focus on four Councils situated across Greater Sydney and the Central Coast.This week, we thought it was only fitting to end our 8 - week exploration of mobility during a pandemic with a journey destination heat map as well.
The aspect we found quite interesting was the difference between the origin and destination heat maps:
Although origin points spread far and wide, destination points were fewer and far between; this possibly indicates that while many journeys start in different places, they may end in similar ones. Here's a side-by-side visual comparison of the heat map for origins and destinations:
